Going to look at 40 acres about 75 minutes from town. $3600/acre. No improvements. No buildings.

A couple images from my foray into the Sandia Mountains. I did some hiking. I've learned to hike up first then down, rather than down then up. It's much better.
It was a fabulous drive. I stopped for a picnic lunch at the junction of 165 (135?) and almost went down the un-improved road before good sense re-asserted its hold on me and I went back the way I came. I do try to avoid being a statistic.
( three pictures )
Finally: what kind of tree (cactus?) is this? Fascinating!

Edit: Thank you! It is Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens). Cool!

A picture from Nevada before my ill-concieved summit of Mt. Rose:

I have finished my lecture circuit. The folks were fantastic. I slept in this morning though until 9 am - luxury!
Today I am taking the tram to the Sandia Peak. Tomorrow is Santa Fe. Los Alamos on Monday with my DOE friends.
Edit: 8:06 pm

I summited Mt. Rose which was about 3 miles round trip and about 3000 ft. I was in hiking sandals and a tank top & shorts. Flatland doesn't have temperature gradients with changes in altitude and also winds. It was chilly; heck, downright cold!

I'm headed out for a snowy sunday hike with some people from the meetup group. I might not be able to get up and down the trails, but I can do some strolling among the woods.
I added three new locations to my hiking map: Banner Marsh, Rice Lake, and Argyle Lake State Park.

Orienteering was fabulous!! Reading maps, compass use, sighting, locating features, cross-country hiking, and timed events. Water, woods and earth. Rose bushes ouch! Three different courses for all skill levels. Fun fun fun! I did the white (easy) course in about 40 minutes. The ROTC kids did the orange course in about 60 minutes. Some people were on the red. Their times are 1.5 hr or more. Muddy boots. Grass stained jeans. Pure Joy.
